Focused Sun began in the last solar boom of the 80s. Its key people – Shawn Buckley, Ron Petrich and Amir Abtahi – worked together on the MIT-Chevron solar panel. There they learned that sandwich fabrication produced the lowest cost solar panel. Beginning in 2009, Focused Sun was founded to develop the concept of a hybrid solar panel using sandwich fabricated mirrors. The result was the FourFold module that produces electricity and heat from sunlight. They have also developed the FourFold Factory that makes modules in small local factories.
